These reports on WNBC-TV (6:20 on Thursday mornings and 5:50 on Monday evenings) and WNBC.com/technology bring you tips and tricks to make use of technology all around you. Please send feedback by using this form.
Here are some tips on something unusual: Using your computer and your cellphone to help you find parking spots. As with all such services, be sure to double-check everything and do lots of test runs.
- BestParking.com: This site helps you find garages around the city. They say: "Search and compare all parking rates and locations."
- PrimoSpot.com: This site helps you find where spots are usually available around the Manhattan. They say "Find free parking in NYC! Search thousands of Manhattan parking signs."
- ScoutSpot.com: This service, in test mode in NYC right now, allows users to
find an available spot via computer or cellphone. Think of it as social
networking for parking. They also offer ways for garages and even people who
are parked in public spots to sell the INFORMATION about the spots they have
access to (not the spots themselves). They say: "Parking the mobile generation." - MobileParking: An interesting use of phone technology, this company is testing its service in the NYC area. They say: "You can now find a parking space with your mobile phone in less than 30 seconds.MobileParking matches parking customers with the closest parking garage that has spaces available."
