BREWSTER, N.Y. -- A new building on the main street of Brewster is supposed to be a performing arts center, but townspeople say the Verona houses anything but art.
Also: Manhattan Brothel Busted The Verona Performing Arts Center is also known as Club Verona, an upscale gentleman's club, NewsChannel4's Kendra Farn reported.On the club's Web site, it advertises pictures of nude women that will be dancing at Club Verona.
The club's attorney said there are no tacky signs at Club Verona out of respect for the community, and no one is sneaking anything."It is a performing arts center. It depends on your perspective as to art, but the First Amendment protects what is going on at these premises," the attorney said. "The club is unobtrusive, it's being legally run. And just because it offends a couple of people, that's too bad."However, many people in the town are not convinced."We certainly didn't expect it to be nude dancing, and we were all disappointed, and we were concerned," one town resident said.Elected officials have vowed to shut the club down. The club has been slapped with three code violations.Club operators are scheduled to appear in court next month.
