NEW YORK -- Women itching to get married are scratching at a bridal shop infested with fleas.
Now, the store, David's Bridal of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, is trying to get the bugs out.
According to a spokesperson for David's Bridal -- a nationwide chain of bridal shops that includes 200 stores -- the problem is limited to this store alone.
The store was closed Friday, although those who have made purchases have been allowed inside.
A David's Bridal spokesperson also confirms that the store has had a recurring pest problem since late April. However, he denied the source of contamination was a shipment of fabric from overseas.
The fleas have been a ticklish topic for some customers -- most of whom have been reluctant to discuss the possibility of scratching their way down the aisle.
David's Bridal says the company is inspecting dresses at the store and
those being picked up are steamed first as a precaution.
Bride-to-be Laurie Morello and her mom said they're both buying their dresses at the store with only fleeting concerns.
"I'm a little nervous now because I don't want to feel itchy," she said.
NewsChannel 4 should did check with the New York City Health Department on whether steaming the dresses would actually get any bugs out. A spokesperson there said that they're not so sure about whether steaming would help, but that dry-cleaning kill the fleas. The store tells NewsChannel 4 that it's handling any consumer complaints on a case-by-case basis.
