L.I. Man Arrested In Stray Bullet Shooting That Hit Boy

NEW YORK -- Police arrested a man Wednesday in the April 14 shooting of an 11-year-old in the face with a bullet that was intended for the boy’s father.
L.I. Boy Shot In Face By Stray Bullet Police charged Mitchell Coffey, 20, with first-degree assault in shooting Jeffrey Langhorne. Coffey was held overnight for arraignment Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Suffolk County police said the boy was sitting at the kitchen table Monday afternoon in April when a bullet went through the rear of the Provost Avenue home in North Bellport and struck him in the face.Suffolk County investigators said Jeffery Langhorne’s father was arguing with a group of men behind his family’s home. As the argument escalated, one of the men drew a gun and fired three times. One bullet went through a window of the home, striking the boy’s face.Police said the 11-year-old boy’s family rushed him to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
