L.I. Teen Dies In Car Crash

POSTED: 12:05 pm EDT July 15, 2008
UPDATED: 1:13 pm EDT July 15, 2008

Suffolk County police said Tuesday they are investigating a crash that killed a Medford teen and left a man in critical condition.

Brett Brown, 46, was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz eastbound on Woodside Avenue Monday night when he was struck head-on near Harlem Avenue by a 2003 Honda, police said. The Honda was heading westbound and crossed the double yellow lines into Brown’s lane at 9:35 p.m., police said.

The Honda, occupied by Christopher Vogel, 20, of 28 Rosedale Ave., and Nicholas Luongo, 17, of 5 Balsam Drive, Medford, broke apart into two pieces, ejecting both of them. Police believe that Vogel was driving the vehicle.

Luongo was pronounced dead at the scene. Vogel sustained critical injuries.

The vehicles were both impounded for safety checks. The initial investigation revealed that the crash is a result of excessive speed and loss of control by the driver of the Honda, police said.
