UPDATED: 10:41 am EST March 4, 2008

The NYPD said it is seeking a man in connection with two attempted sexual assaults early Sunday morning in the West Village.

Police said a 30-year-old woman was attacked at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday in front of 240 Bleecker St.

Police said the victim was approached by the man from behind, thrown to the ground and assaulted. During the assault, police said the attacker attempted to remove the victim's pants.

However, the woman screamed and was able to break free from the man. Several moments later, police said the man attacked the victim a second time and again fled the scene after the victim fought him off.

She was taken to an area hospital, police said, and treated for her injuries.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said a 26-year-old was thrown to the ground and assaulted by the same man several blocks away.

The victim screamed and fought with the man, who fled the scene, police said. She was also taken to an area hospital and treated for her injuries.

The attacker is described as a man in his 20s who is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 140 pounds. Police said he was wearing a dark baseball cap and a dark-colored pullover hoodie at the time of the alleged attacks.
