Carol Pierce used the money for vacations in Florida, home decorations and electronics.

Pierce was the head of the hospital's Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) from 1990 though 2005. Prosecutors said Pierce used her hospital-issued American Express card to purchase airplane tickets, a stained-glass lamp, a Bordeaux bench, silver plates and a camcorder.

Investigators said she also entered into a kickback scheme with a cleaning company. Prosecutors said she had her then-Teaneck, N.J., home cleaned twice per week paid out under the hospital contract. Over the years, $311,000 dollars was over-billed due to the cleaning services.

More than 13,000 families have been helped by the WIC program in upper Manhattan.

Pierce was convicted of conspiracy, mail fraud and theft charges for ripping off the program. U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said the 52-year old Pierce will be sentenced on June 12.
