Submachine Gun Goes Missing From N.J. Police Arsenal

POSTED: 10:54 am EST January 18, 2008

New Jersey police are searching for a submachine gun that shoots 700 to 900 rounds per minute and disappeared more than a week ago from the department's arsenal.

Deputy Police Chief John Reardon said he doubts the nine-millimeter weapon wound up in the hands of a private citizen.

Passaic County prosecutors are investigating. It's listed as missing or stolen in a national police database, and so far, there is no indication where the weapon might be.
