The New York City Police Department is seeking the public's help finding a man they said attacked a middle-aged woman with a meat cleaver days before Christmas in Manhattan.

A 52-year-old woman was going down the stairs at the 18th Avenue F subway station when the suspect approached and grabbed her and demanded her property, police said.

Police said the suspect, described as thin, in his 30s and about 5'9", demanded her property and cut the victim's left hand and removed her purse.

The victim was transported to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crimestopper’s hot line at (800) 577-TIPS.
