Ex-Yankee Arrested On Suspicion Of DWI In Fatal Crash

NEW YORK -- Former Yankee Jim Leyritz was arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence and being involved in a crash that left one person dead, police said.A Fort Lauderdale police spokesman said Leyritz, who turned 44 on Thursday, faces charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI property damage.Leyritz has been released from the Broward County jail after posting $11,000 bond.
Fort Lauderdale police said Leyritz hit another car at an intersection early Friday morning in the city's entertainment district. The 30-year-old woman driving the other car was ejected and taken to Broward Medical Center, where she died.Witnesses told police Leyritz had a red light.Leyritz played 11 big league seasons for six teams and last played in the majors in 2000.Yankees fans have fond memories of Leyritz for his play in Game 4 of the 1996 World Series, when he hit a three-run home run against the Atlanta Braves.
