The following statement was issued by Dr. Harvey Finkelstein, the anesthesiologist involved in the syringe scare on Long Island:Many of my numerous supporters have expressed shock at what one called my "public persecution." They urge me to talk about my professional and personal qualities. While I have been asked not to comment about the accusations against me, I am free to discuss who I am as a person.
Nowhere, not once, is the pain I have relieved, the misery I have reversed and the kindness I have offered in 20 years as a physician acknowledged. First and foremost, I am a compassionate healer. I have worked tirelessly, putting in 12-16 hour days on my patients' behalf. If they can't come to me, I travel to their homes, into nursing homes, and other places where many doctors don't go. I have always enjoyed an excellent reputation among my peers, who have bestowed upon me numerous honors and recognitions.I am a dutiful family man. I am close to my God and dedicated to my religion. My honesty and humility, I believe, define my character. I have asked for God's grace and strength during this difficult time.
