Exonerated Convicts Speak Out Against Capital Punishment
Two men who have been exonerated for murder are using their experience to speak out against the use of capital punishment.Jeffrey Deskovic spent 16 years in prison for the 1989 murder of a Peekskill High School classmate. Douglas Warney spent a decade behind bars for the murder of a Rochester man.
Both men were innocent and were eventually freed when their cases were overturned.Now, they are joining New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty director David Kaczynski to talk about their wrongful convictions. The appearance Thursday comes just days after New York's highest court overturned the last death sentence in the state, upholding a 2004 decision declaring the state's 1995 capital punishment law unconstitutional.
