NEW YORK -- Six people were injured Monday after an out of control car crashed through the window of a Popeye's Fried Chicken restaurant in Hamilton Heights, police said.

Police said a woman driving a Honda Accord plowed into the crowded restaurant on Frederick Douglas Boulevard at 145th street at dinner time.

Witnesses said customers ran for their lives, leaving their half-eaten meals behind.

"(It's) something I don't want to see again," David Grieco, a witness said. "She came down the hill and went straight into the window."

The car smashed into a table where Anthony White said his niece and her boyfriend were sitting. He said they were lucky to get away with just a few scrapes and cuts, from an experience he called traumatizing.

"Anybody getting hit by a car is frightening, especially when you're just eating," White said.

Police said the driver of the car may have had a leg cramp which caused her to lose control of the car. She and her passenger were rushed to Harlem Hospital along with four other people who were injured when the car crashed through the window and sent pieces of glass flying through the restaurant.

"Imagine you want to get something to eat and a car comes through the window," Cheryl King, a witness said. "Not a good thing."
