Carolyn Gusoff

Carolyn Gusoff joined News 4 New York as a reporter for the station's Long Island Bureau in August 1993. In addition to reporting, she co-anchors the station’s top-rated morning program, "Today in New York," Sundays, 6 a.m.- 9 a.m.Since joining News 4 New York, Gusoff has covered numerous breaking news stories affecting the Long Island area. She was one of the first reporters on the scene at the crash of TWA Flight 800 and American Airlines Flight 587. She was also one of the first on scene following the massacre on the Long Island Rail Road. Gusoff followed the Long Island Rail Road tragedy from the initial incident to the trial and conviction of gunman Colin Ferguson. During the blizzard of '96, Gusoff reported for 36 straight hours on the storm's toll on Long Island and has also covered every major storm to strike our area since.Gusoff came to News 4 New York from Long Island's News 12, where she covered the police/crime beat, courts, spot news, United Nations, political conventions and features. She also worked as primary fill-in anchor for the 24-hour regional news network.
Gusoff's broadcasting career also includes positions as anchor/reporter for WEVU-TV, Fort Myers, Fla., (1985-87); and reporter for WIXI-FM/WLEQ-FM Radio, Fort Myers (1986-87).Gusoff has received numerous honors for her work, including a 2004 New York Emmy award for On-Camera Performance/General Assignment Reporting. She has also garnered eight New York Emmy nominations for coverage including her reporting of American Airlines Flight 587 crash and The Belmont Stakes. Gusoff has earned dozens of Long Island Coalition "FOLIO" awards on topics ranging from racial issues, science and health, environmental, political and feature reporting. She also won a total of six first place Society of Professional Journalists/Press Club of Long Island awards for deadline and feature reporting, a national award from The American Women in Radio and Television Commendation; a local Emmy award for outstanding coverage of a breaking story; an Associated Press/New York Spot News Award for "Avianca Crash," and a United Press International/New York Broadcast Award for outstanding achievement investigative documentary, "No Quick Fix."Gusoff holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in government and English from Cornell University.
