The first gay couple in New York state tied the knot the very second they legally could, just after midnight Sunday. Kitty Lambert and Cheryle Rudd, a couple of more than 12 years and both grandmothers, exchanged vows at Niagara Falls, with a display of rainbow lights across the waterfall as a backdrop. "We’re so proud of everybody who crawled up this hill with us," Lambert, 54, said Saturday night, BuffaloNews.com reported. Thousands of weddings are expected to occur over the weekend, as gay couples across the state celebrate their historic win of the legal right to marry. New York is the sixth and largest U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage.
