'Idol' Fantasia Releases Debut Single

Fantasia Barrino will soon find out if America is ready to buy her debut single.
The "American Idol" winner's "I Believe" is being released Tuesday.The song, written by former "Idol" contestant and recording artist Tamyra Gray, was performed by Barrino during the "Idol" finals last month.
The show's runner-up, Diana DeGarmo, will release her debut single next week.Barrino is the third winner of the annual competition, following in the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson (interview) and Ruben Studdard.Her short-term goal is to make an album that will appeal to a lot of people. Her long-term goals include acting, a clothing line and working with teen centers in her home state of North Carolina.Barrino said she also wants to be a role model for single moms. She has a 2-year-old daughter, but isn't married -- and says that shouldn't be held against her.She said a lot of people still put unwed moms down -- but that was one of the things that inspired her to try to win the television talent competition.Barrino said she feels she has been forgiven by God and that people should also be willing to let her go on with her life.
