College Entrepreneurs Donate Profits To Charity

Freshmen business students at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., have donated record profits from their 14 businesses to charity.

More than 400 freshman involved in the student businesses raised $62,500 in profits.

The money was donated to area charities, including local chapters of the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club.

In addition to donating profits, the Babson students also performed volunteer work for their selected charity.

The undergrad student businesses were part of Babson’s Foundation Management Experience, a two-semester required course for all entering freshmen.

Student teams began working in September to develop business plans, which they then presented to faculty members.

The 14 selected businesses began operating in January and sold their products and services through the winter and spring.

Students presented year-end financial reports at the end of the semester.
